About
I’m Andrea, a Mexican artist living in North Carolina, and my art is all about color and play! I started my art journey in 2019 as a therapeutic practice and soon found it to be my passion in life.
When I started creating I knew nothing about the world of art and had no intention of showing my creations to the world. This allowed me to freely express and explore and it’s how my “Monas” came to life.
I would be drawn to painting these whimsical faces with funky features, colorful hats, and fun patterns. My husband once asked me what they were and I said, “son mis monas feas (they’re my ugly dolls.)”
He thought they were so cool and not ugly at all. He encouraged me to keep painting and to sell my art. I had never considered that and had absolutely no idea how that would be possible but the idea that I could create something, share it with others, and bring joy or spark curiosity in others really spoke to my soul.
Since that time I have created, sold, loved, hated, and even destroyed paintings. What an artist thing to do!
What I love most about painting is the process, getting lost in following a weird idea, mixing colors, seeing what happens if I do this or that. The words I speak most in my studio are, “let’s just see what happens,” as I entertain a weird thought or idea that often leads to the reason why I keep doing what I do. It’s in those moments of play and raw curiosity that my entire body and soul know creativity is a super power and a precious gift.
I hope my art inspires you to play, explore, and create a world where creativity and self-expression are a foundational and vital element of living.
